Content Management System (CMS) based Website Design Portfolio

The more recent of the CMS based websites we have designed have used the open source Content Management Software - Drupal (or Wordpress). Older websites used our own CMS software.

Alternatively we have provided web site maintenance training for people who want to maintain their own websites without being tied into a CMS system.

Content Managed Website Designed For 3 Counties Heating, Harpenden, Hertfordshire

screenshot of web site design for: 3 Counties Heating, Harpenden, Herts

www.3countiesheating.co.uk 3 Counties Heating are a family run business of plumbers and central heating engineers operating in the Herts, Beds and Bucks area. Barbara Dicker wanted a brand new website that was based on a Content Management System that will perform well in the search engines. She had a clear vision of a particular design she was after - always a challenge with a CMS based website but the DRUPAL CMS was up for it! The end result was a pleasing design so it was well worth the effort. Drupal is also one of the best CMS systems for search engine optimisation so we are looking forward to some good search engine rankings over the coming months.

"The general feedback I am getting for our site has been very good and we have had a few good leads from it and a number of other enquires too. Everyone I've spoken to is impressed with the site and has said how professional it looks. Some even asked if it was expensive. What we wanted was to stand out from the crowd and be able to compete with the bigger companies like British Gas and Northern Gas Heating. I think we have certainly achieved this with the design. The SEO of course we will have to wait and see. Thank you for all the hard work you put into this site."

I also wanted to incorporate SEO into the design and build without paying expensive SEO fees to a so called specialist. Epsilis provided the solution and have built two sites for me that are performing well. Working with Michael has been a pleasure and behind his unassuming nature is a wealth of talent and experience that he is happy to share to improve your web presence and your business. Michael also provides an incredible ongoing support and advisory service and is always available to answer your questions and queries first hand. If you are considering creating a new website or revamping your old site then be sure to seek out the services of Michael Spencer and his company Epsilis"

CMS based Website Designed For Furnishing Report London

screenshot of web site design for: Furnishing Report, Media 3V Ltd, London

www.furnishingreport.com  A new website to support companies in the home furnishings industry by providing insight and information, including breaking news, market data, opinion and analysis.

Richard asked me to design a website he could update daily himself having had previous experience of using Content Management Systems and experience of preparing images for use on the web.

He had a clear idea of what he wanted his new website to look like. This can be a problem with CMS based sites as presentation options can be limited however most of Richards presentation requirements were possible using the Drupal Open Source Content Management System (CMS).

“Michael Spencer’s knowledge, skill and approachability have proved to be second to none. Content management system driven websites can be incredibly complex, but Michael has followed the brief to the letter and provided a range of solutions that will allow us to monetise our website. We would highly recommend him as a web designer/developer and have every intention of using his services when we launch further sites in the future.”

CMS based blogs integrated into The Haymakers Survey Hertfordshire

screenshot of web site design for: The Haymakers Survey, Ware, Herts

www.thehaymakerssurvey.com "The Haymakers Survey – a unique and mysterious project about climate change, deforestation, poaching and pollution. Let’s look back 200 years to the industrial revolution. Imagine people like Mary Shelley, William Wordsworth and William Turner deeply concerned about the potential impact of the industrial age on our Earth! What if they met in secret on Christmas Day in 1822 as the Blakeware Set with other heroes from across the world and left us something magical and enchanted – ‘The Haymakers Survey!’ What if a romantic poet from that time, Charles Lamb, recorded everything in his journal." The Haymakers Survey is in fact a novel by Chrissie Daines, a new writer.

This is a very interesting project from the perspective of what Chrissie has set out to achieve as well as what she wanted on her website. ln addition to the normal website pages, there is a survey (using open source software) which has been skinned to match the site design, plus 3 blogs (provided within the hosting set up) used to provide relevant news, feedback and a bonus for people who make it to the end of the "Survey".

In addition Chrissie has been very active on You Tube and elsewhere creating associated materials.

"I'm so glad you are doing my website"

Search Engine Optimisation on a CMS based website for Promain Hertfordshire

screenshot of web site design for: Promain, Hitchin, Herts

www.promain.co.uk "Promain distribute Industrial Paints and Surface Coatings. Promain are approved distributors for many of the world's leading paint and coatings manufacturers such as Ameron PPG, Sika, Coo-Var, Rustoleum Mathys, Tor Coatings, Classidur, Hempel, Osmo, Anglo, Glixtone, Bollom Intumescent, Marley, Teamac and Akzo Nobel."

Mark French at Promain had just had his new website delivered after a long wait but was a bit concerned about search engine optimisation. He had been told his new site automatically did all the search engine optimisation but he had doubts so he asked me to have a look. The thing about search engine optimisation is that it is mainly about the words on a website and partly about the html code around the words - so automatic search engine optimisation is largely ineffectual unless thought has gone into the words used and the right html code is used in the right places. So there was still a lot to do before Promains web site was effective in the search engines. I provided guidance to Mark and Carol at Promain on how to write effective text content for their products and we made a number of amendments to the way their web site was coded to be more focussed on search engine optimisation. They were also spending a large amount of money on Google Adwords to no great effect so I also showed them how to focus their campaigns more effectively.

Try a few examples such as "Antibacterial Hygiene Paint" or "Driveway Paints" or "Teamac Marine Gloss Paint" or "Offshore Paints" or "Roof Coating Paints" or "Street Furniture Paints" or "Centrecoat Aquafloor"

"We should have asked you to be involved from the beginning then we would have had the job done properly"
Mark French, Promain
"We are really busy now, the phones haven't stopped ringing"
Carol Barry, Promain

Bishop Creighton House Settlement wanted a cleanly presented straightforward site to support their charitable activities at the community centre and out in the Hammersmith and Fulham area.

To aid accessibility the web site is designed using style sheets for content positioning rather than using tables, all text content resizes with the visitors browser text size settings and the site pages scale to fit the browser window.

All pages of the web site are manageable through our epecentre content management software package.

"I'm really happy to provide a testimonial: I found working with you very helpful and supportive. As you know, we didn't have much IT expertise in-house, and it was vital to have someone who talked us through it in a way we could easily understand. I especially appreciated the support and advice around things like accessibility, and legal issues like the privacy policy. Your response to my hundreds of queries was fast and helpful, and I also appreciated your willingness to make the hundreds of small changes as we went through the process! Thanks for all your help"

CMS based Website Designed For Sterry Communications Hertfordshire

screenshot of web site design for: Sterry, Welwyn, Hertfordshire

We were responsible for the design and construction of 3 versions of the Sterry Communications website over 6 years up to the takeover of the company.

The last version was a complete overhaul of the look, structure and content of the web site. Included in the site upgrade was an implementation of the W3C accessibility guidelines. The web site featured Sterry's product ranges based on supplier and on target markets. New features include news management and management of customer support materials in the form of FAQ's and product manual downloads.

"Since updating our site with Epsilis, we have had a large increase in visitors. This is mostly due to the increased content and regular news updates that can be included through the content management management software. We have recently received a large order from a enquiry generated from the site who researched our company from the website before contacting us. Working with Epsilis to complete the web site has been easy."

CMS based Website Designed For Morrisby Organisation Hertfordshire

screenshot of web site design for: Morrisby

Morrisby are leaders in psychometric assessments for career advice and guidance.

www.morrisby.com includes extensive career advice information and multiple search mechanisms to help select careers or further education. The requirement was for a new website design based around a new brochure with a very visual home page and business like internal pages. All the website content is manageable using the standard edition of our epecentre Content Management software

"We wanted a site that was attractive but business-like appearance and allows users uncomplicated access to the many pages of information we provide. Other important factors were that the new site had to be available within a fixed time frame and once up and running, it should be readily accessible and quick to update. Epsilis were selected as the supplier because they were able to meet all the criteria. From a basic outline of these needs, Epsilis quickly understood our requirements and offered a series of design proposals. This included advice on the structure of the site to ensure easy navigation and compatibility with a range of browsers.
The Content Management Consol has proved a rapid and effective system for managing the site. It allows us to make our own day-to-day changes by editing text, changing and inserting tables and images, as required. Routine control of the site remains with us but at the same time, there is telephone support as and when needed. Throughout the project, the Epsilis team have been readily available to ensure the project was on time and to our complete satisfaction. Within days of the website going live, we were receiving compliments on the design, the speed and of course, the content."
