Peter had a website already but it was not making any impact on the search engines so he came to me to see what could be done. I explained the problems with his site - while it looked nice it was not coded to be search engine friendly and the website lacked text content - so we drafted more text between us and I redesigned the site while retaining some of its original look.

The Haymakers Survey is in fact a novel by Chrissie Daines, a new writer.

This is a very interesting project from the perspective of what Chrissie has set out to achieve as well as what she wanted on her website. ld addition to the normall website pages, there is a survey (using open source software) which has been skinned to match the site design, plus 3 blogs (provided within the hosting set up) used to provide relevant news, feedback and a bonus for people who make it to the end of the "Survey".

In addition Chrissie has been very active on You Tube and elsewhere creating associated materials.

We designed, built and regularly maintain the websites for Drakes Group. We rebranded the main Drakes Group site for the new Marston Group Limited, we placed splash pages pages in front of the main sites to publicise the launch of the new company and provide a mechanism to choose which website to visit (depending on whether you were a Drakes or a Marstons customer). We also developed a micro-site for the staff of the combined company.

Margrit Session, Managing Director, wanted a new website developed that she could update regularly herself having been frustrated by waiting for her site to be updated by her previous web designers. The website uses the open source DRUPAL content management system as its base, includes a simple implementation of the UBERCART ecommerce shopping software and search engine optimisation modules (try "mobile pricing reports" or "Telecoms Pricing Tariffs Information" or "telecoms pricing information" or "mobile pricing reports"). The look of website is a highly customised.

Promain are approved distributors for many of the world's leading paint and coatings manufacturers such as Ameron PPG, Sika, Coo-Var, Rustoleum Mathys, Tor Coatings, Classidur, Hempel, Osmo, Anglo, Glixtone, Bollom Intumescent, Marley, Teamac and Akzo Nobel."

Mark French at Promain had just had his new website delivered after a long wait but was a bit concerned about search engine optimisation. He had been told his new site automatically did all the search engine optimisation but he had doubts so he asked me to have a look. The thing about search engine optimisation is that it is mainly about the words on a website and partly about the html code around the words - so automatic search engine optimisation is largely ineffectual unless thought has gone into the words used and the right html code is used in the right places. So there was still a lot to do before Promains web site was effective in the search engines. I provided guidance to Mark and Carol at Promain on how to write effective text content for their products and we made a number of amendments to the way their web site was coded to be more focussed on search engine optimisation. They were also spending a large amount of money on Google Adwords to no great effect so I also showed them how to focus their campaigns more effectively.

Joseph Tirelli of JT Marketing Services asked me to produce a website for one of his clients very quickly for an up coming company launch. He had a graphic designer produce a logo and the site was to be clear, with plently of white space, echoing the logo theme. Joseph produced the text content - the web site you see is the result.

Mark Payne came to me with a logo and a general idea of the design he was looking for, for this new website. What you see is the result, a clean, simple design that takes its guide from the logo. The images were sourced by Mark from an online photo site.

Chris Parfitt had a web site designed but his web designer was not a search engine specialist so Chris approached me to see if I could improve the search engine performance without starting again. I have retained the general look of the website while substantially rewriting the underlying code and focusing the text content on suitable search engine phrases. I also helped Chris understand his google adwords campaign and Chris now tells me he has stopped paying for Google adwords as the website is now ranking sufficiently well in Google natural listings. They custom design and install central heating systems with a five year guarantee. They are corgi registered and specialise in central heating systems designed to achieve maximum fuel efficiency and minimum fuel bills, which is great for the environment and for their customers' wallets.

Les Dicker approached us to take over regular maintenance of their website and give it a face lift. I reviewed the website - my general impression was that the site was showing its age, it had been developed a few years back when things were done a little differently and had suffered from being chopped and changed so there were quite a lot of little issues and inconsistencies. There was one significant problem in that the top menu did not work properly in most modern browsers other than IE. I thought there was quite a lot of scope for improving the wording to focus more on the target customers and get more out of search engines.

Les gave me a free hand and the website you now see is the result. The look retains much of their previous website brand, the navigation has been re-organised to be more logical, most of the text has been rewritten, the website is now designed to be search engine friendly and I have attended to the Disability Accessibility issues.

So how is the website doing in the search engine rankings - I'm delighted to see that it is not only on page one for a wide selection of target keyword phrases it is number 1 for quite a lot of them. www.secureyourfertiliser.gov.uk. This is a second site I have designed for NaCTSO (The National Counter Terrorism Security Office). They already had this website but wanted the design brought up to date.

The site is aimed primarily at farmers. Fertilisers they commonly use have been misused by terrorists as an ingredient in home made explosive. The website aims to raise awareness amongst the farming and growing community and to provide practical guidance about securing fertiliser. The site has also includes a set of Welsh language pages.

The site is search engine friendly, accessible, XHTML and CSS standards compliant. The drop shadows on the heading text were a done without using images - they are done by layering and offsetting text using html and CSS.

He wanted a clean, crisp, search engine friendly website to showcase his work that could be maintained by his normal web designer. Steve is a wordsmith but did not have experience with writing for search engines - so the first thing we discussed was the differences between writing text for marketing and search engines. From that Steve then decided on the keywords he wished to target then he wrote his text content.

I think we have come up with a very pleasing and subtle web site design template to suit the brief. Since then the site has been maintained and adapted by Steve's normal web designer to good effect.

Nigel Allen approached me as his previous web design company had let him down. He had a new site designed but it had not been completed and was also having trouble sorting out his domains and web space. I took a look at the design and it was clear that search engine optimisation, which was one of Nigels key requirements, did not play any part in the redesign but some fancy flash animations did. Nigel and I decided it was best to start again from first principles, look at search engine target keywords and phrases, build some content from these, then build a search engine friendly design to suit. The new site also features a lot of pictures of the raised mezzanine floors that Allen Mezzanines have built.

Mark Feldman of Mars Builders had a website but it wasn't doing anything helpful, they already had a logos they wanted to use and wanted to feature bright blue and yellow which they use in their branding. There are a lot of builders so this is a very competitive market and good search engine rankings are hard to come by - try "building contractors herts" or "builders knebworth" for example in google.

www.nactso.gov.uk. The National Counter Terrorism Security Office (NaCTSO) is a police unit co-located with the Centre for the Protection of the National Infrastructure (CPNI). They offer specialist advice regarding the security of explosives and pre-cursor chemicals (including fertilisers), pathogens and toxins, radiological sources and other toxic chemicals. They also provide guidance in relation to business continuity, designing out vehicle borne terrorism, the protection of crowded places and reducing opportunities for terrorism through environmental design.

There was a voice mail message for me - it said "This is Graham Smith, I work for The National Counter Terrorism Security Office within MI5. Don't worry, I would like to talk to you about your website design services ...." Well you don't get a phone call like that everyday!

Graham had a very strict set of guidelines that the website needed to follow, he wanted a professional design, following all the web standards but he was looking for the job to be done quickly with the minimum of fuss. The website also had to be approved, as you can imagine, by a variety of key people. The website was up and running within 1 month.

www.rensolutions.co.uk provide building and dwelling thermal imaging. This was a new one on me as I had not heard or thought of such a service before but it is just such a great idea. Basically you can have your house checked for heat loss and damp problems by using an infrared camera. So problems can be found without pulling anything apart - brilliant. To quote from the website:

"Infrared imaging offers a fast, non-invasive means of monitoring and diagnosing the condition of buildings. There are many applications, and recent restrictions on working at height and ever increasing demands for carbon foot print reduction has increased the demand for this service".

The website has been designed to be search engine friendly and Nick was particularly keen to ensure the site complied with Disability Accessibility legislation requirements. Nick provided lots of interesting phopographs that illustrate nicely the benefits of the service his company is providing. The website is making reasonable progress in the search engines achieving page 1 rankings in google for some target keyword phrases - try "building thermal imaging"

Jacquie Hime, Director of NHCVS came to us after some bad experiences with trying to get their website done very cheaply. The website was incomplete and did not allow for accessibility requirements. There were also problems with the hosting and domain set up.

We redesigned and completely recoded the web pages to allow for accessibility requirements and to be more user friendly. We have resolved the issues with the hosting and domains and the site is now up and running. We have recently trained Jacquie and other NHCVS staff to maintain the site themselves which they are now actively doing.

You remain the sole purchaser of your property but get a bulk purchase discount as others are buying property at the sametime as you. Very clever idea!

Colin Cleaver, whose inspiration this website is, came to us in a bit of a jam. He had the website created by another company but had run into some problems. The website has been put together using a number of software packages but the site had been hacked before it went live. The software developer was no longer available to help and the hosting company had disabled the service as a result of the hacking. Colin came to us to see if we could salvage his website.

New Property Purchasers Directory has now been restored and is now at least as good as it was, using the original software. We redesigned the front end web pages to be much more in tune with the look of the backend application.

Terrington Facilites handle all aspects of Television production - This includes the installation and operation of digital television in Studio and Outside Broadcast environment. They provide technical support for all broadcast environments; studios, control rooms, edit suites, video servers, outside broadcast and transmission areas.

Mike Hartung of Terrington Facilities had done some graphic design work and had a good idea of the sort of look he wanted for the website. We took his initial graphic designs and created a number of website designs from them. Mike did not want much text content on the site and search engine performance was specifically not a requirement. The resulting website is therefore a little different from most of the ones we produce and in particular is fixed width to suit the high graphic content and low text content.

Craftsman Limited provide and install Granite Worktops for Kitchens, Bathrooms, Pubs etc. Tadas Bukys (Tom) - Sales Manager of Craftsman limited approached me as they had a web site but it was invisible in the search engines and they were paying a lot out regularly on Google Adwords. They were hoping to reduce their adwords budget by getting some natural search engine results. Their website used a content management system.

I re-wrote most of the existing website content and created new copy for the site. However this did no good in the search engines as the content management system was preventing the web site from getting search engine rankings it deserved. So it was decided that the content management system should be removed. All, the pages were restructured and redesigned to be search engine friendly and the site has just been relaunched but good search engine rankings are hard to comeby in this very competitive area. However some good rankings have been achieved - try "Granite Worktop Care and Maintenance" or "How should I clean my granite worktop" in google.

CMO Translations was founded by Carla Mengual Oltra in 2004 and is based in Hamburg, Germany.

CMO Translations provides English, German, Spanish and Catalan translation services.

They do General and Specialised Document Translation – small documents including: birth certificate translation, food menu translation, medical translation, etc…to large specialised texts such as brochure translation, deeds translation, manuals translation, etc...

CMO Translations also provides a Proof Reading and Editing service and a Website translation service.

Carla had a particular look in mind for her company's website - she wanted a youthful modern design. It was to be mainly white featuring either blue or green (green worked out best as blue did not work as well as the design was to include flags), large photos provided by Carla, tabbed navigation and a simple logo using the company name. The website design was to be search engine friendly.

Carla provided all the text (I have no idea if the Spanish pages are correct - Carla is the expert here - I just put the words in place.)

The website was designed using HTML and CSS, the tab navigation was a challenge but it is all achieved using CSS (no javascript or tables here in a bid to remain as accessible as possible). The website was designed and created from nothing in under 3 weeks. As for search engines try "english to spanish language translation in hamburg" in google.

The core of their business is LAN/MAN/WAN infrastructure, Security, Convergence and Systems Infrastructure. Xpertex is comprised of a number of fully qualified and experienced IT consultants and technicians that provide ad-hoc technical resources to the IT sector. Greg Brookes wanted a small website he could make small amendments to himself, with a simple layout, large images and blue as the feature colour. He also wanted good search engine performance so we advised him on how search engines worked, the importance of keywords and phrases and drafting a suitable amount of text (at least 250 words) for each of his web pages. Greg created a list of keywords and drafted the website copy much as you see it on the website and with only minor amendments made by us to emphasise keywords. Greg also selected most of the photos used as the basis of the images you see on the website from an online source which is a good way of getting high quality photos cheaply for use on your website if you cannot provide them yourself.

The website is designed using straightforward HTML with all the presentation done using CSS to provide a fast accessible website that is search engine friendly. We organised the domain name and hosting arrangement on Greg's behalf. The whole project took just 3 weeks.

Greg's website was enjoying page 1 ranking for some main key phrases when he was based in Spain however the move to London means the competition for page 1 is very strong. Greg has sensibly decided to boast his sites search engine ranking by getting some articles published on the web - this is a great way to improve visibility on the web and search engine rankings. Antony wanted a clean website with some blue (blue seems to be one of the most popular colours for websites - luckily the web colour palet includes quite a few blues) and a logo built around a world map.

letchwortheagles.org.uk is a website we have sponsored for some years now for the Letchworth Garden City Eagles Youth Football Club.

The club was established in 1979, currently has over 400 players are registered between the ages of 6 and 17. Between these ages LGC Eagles has grouped them 'under age' teams. All the boys teams are entered in the Royston Crow Youth League , the girls teams are entered in the Herts Girls League. The club is affiliated to the Hertfordshire Football Association. The LGC Eagles are proud to be awarded the Football Association Charter Standard Club. The club also hosts a Saturday morning Soccer School and runs regular 5 aside competitions ..

The web site covers the full range of activities of the club including merchandising, regular competitions and events. Each team have their own section of the web site - some teams provide weekly updates with match reports and photos, others are less active but all support for the club is completely voluntary so time is at a premium for some of the team managers.
